Geological location
Situated in the Southeast region of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh city borders the East sea and Tien Giang to the south, Binh Duong to the north, Tay Ninh and Long An to the west, Dong Nai and Vung Tau to the east. History
The city’s history dates back to the 17th century, when the area was inhabited by Khmer people and later by Vietnamese migrants. In the late 17th century, the Nguyen dynasty gained control of the area, which was then known as Gia Dinh province. The Nguyen kings established a trading centre in the area, which grew into a bustling port town. In the mid-19th century, the French colonised Vietnam and made Saigon the capital of their Cochinchina colony. In 1954, Vietnam gained independence from France. In 1975, the war finished in Vietnam and The city was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in honour of the Vietnamese revolutionary leader who had died six years earlier.
