Van Lam Embroidery Craft Village is located in the Tam Coc - Bich Dong tourist area, Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh, and the second oldest village of the 5 traditional craft villages in Ninh Binh. Legend has it that the first trace of embroidery craft here dates back to the Tran Dynasty over 800 years ago and was taught by Mrs. Tran Thi Dung, the wife of The Great Tutor Tran Thu Do (a politician who laid the foundation of the Tran dynasty in Vietnam). But it wasn't until 1910, under the French colonialists, that the two villagers, Mr. Dinh Ngoc Henh and Mr. Dinh Ngoc Xoan, learned the embroidery from the French, which marked a watershed in the history of Van Lam Village.
Since then, they have created many embroidery products such as clothes, bed sheets, curtains, pillows, tablecloths, paintings, etc. Van Lam's embroidery products are also displayed at fairs and tourist attractions throughout the country, always popular with domestic and international customers from Japan, Korea, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and the USA.
